The proven technology of Coroning introduced by KAPP represents world advancement in gear honing. KAPP Coroning tools consist of a hardened steel ring with a precision-ground internal gear galvanically plated with a single layer of CBN crystals. These are high-performance tools with extraordinary accuracy and extremely long and consistent life. Like KAPP CBN grinding wheels, coroning tools are non-dressable and can be "re-plated" with a new layer of CBN when necessary.

KAPP nondressable CBN grinding technology is characterized by its ability to full form grind. Like the coroning tools described above, KAPP CBN profile grinding wheels consist of a hardened steel body, precision-ground and galvanically plated with a single layer of CBN crystals. The wheel profile is determined by the gear geometry including all modifications and is precision-ground with the required accuracy. It is well known that CBN and diamond exhibit excellent cutting behavior and wear resistance. In terms of rate of material removal, profile stability and high tool life, CBN grinding wheels equal economical production.
Once the life of the CBN has been reached, nondressable grinding wheels can be "re-plated" and therefore regenerated. The original form accuracy and cutting behavior remain the same and our wheels can be re-plated virtually. This drives down the parts per tool cost.
An additional advantage of this technology is the ability to manufacture wheels as small a roughly 20 mm (0.8"). This permits efficient grinding of small internal gears or profiles and gears or profiles with adjacent shoulders.

An alternative to nondressable KAPP CBN profile grinding wheels, commercially available dressable wheels with aluminum oxide, silicon carbide abrasives or vitrified bonded CBN crystals can be used on the "P" version of our external gear grinding machines such as the VAS 55 P.
